Are you considering a gift or have you already decided to go tandem skydiving? The tandem jump is the easiest way to try skydiving and get the feeling during freefall. Besides the amount allocated for the jump, you wonder whether to take footage and what exactly. Of coarse the first skydive is an unique experience itself and you can’t forget it, even if it was not filmed. As one of the top bucket list experiences for most people, this moment is truly unique. Investing a little extra for video footage ensures you capture memories that far outweigh the cost.
Handycam on the instructor’s hand or a cameraman?
In Skydive Sofia we offer you two types of footage, each giving the option of video or video and photos, plus the Premium – a combination of all ot them.
You can choose footage from a camera on the instructor’s hand (Handy for video or Selfie for video and photos). The camera is on the hand of the tandem instructor, safety mounted in a secure glove, and he knows how to position it properly to capture the thrilling moments for you. The advantages of this type of filming are, first, the lower price, and second – you have the entire experience captured – from the pre-jump interview, the climb to teh altitude with the plane, the free fall, the first reaction when the parachute opens and soaring under the open canopy, to the first words after landing. The downside is mainly the point of view – they shoot from one side and from quite close up, which is not always the best view of our face, falling with around 240 km/h through the sky.
The other option is Paparak – video and photos from another skydiver, and besides the different angle of filming, since the cameraman stands in front of you, here the photos are taken with a camera and the best one can become a poster on the wall, capturing this great moment. The downside is that there are no shots after the parachute opens, as the cameraman has to move away and open his own canopy at a safe distance.
Premium Premium filming offers the best of both worlds – you have video from two perspectives during the free fall and footage under the canopy, plus high-quality camera photos, and you also receive a free flash drive on which the edited clip and photos are recorded.
Our cameramen are the best!
They are the people who will talk to you as you fly with the plane, and then they won’t stop smiling at you during your free fall, flying around you at 240 km/h! Controlling a body in free fall is difficult, as you will see, and when we add a camera and a photo camera on the head, equalizing speed and position, monitoring the light and the correct composition, you can bet that the cameraman’s job is not easy! And we are extremely proud of their work, which is definitely world-class!
If you’re thinking of taking your own action camera (or borrowing one from a friend) to film yourself, unfortunately you won’t be able to. During a tandem jump, it’s essential to avoid wearing anything that could snag on the parachute, such as bulky earrings, watches, shoe hooks—or even a camera. These safety rules are global and don’t just apply to you – and skydivers must have a minimum of 100 jumps before putting on a camera to make sure they can handle it if something goes wrong. It’s not about money, it’s about safety!
Don’t let yourself regret missing one of the most memorable moments of your life without capturing it – for the first time you will see your smiling face in the middle of the big blue sky! Besides being a wonderful keepsake of this unforgettable moment, the video and photos are also a great way to shut up those who don’t believe you really did it!
