65 skydivers from 25 nationalities, 65 flags and one jump from 4,200 metres aboard the legendary IL-76. In the skies above Benghazi, Libya, a new Guinness World Record was set — and Skydive Sofia had the honour of being part of this extraordinary international event.
Some jumps are just jumps. Others stay with you forever.
This was one of those jumps.
Over Benghazi, Libya, 65 professional skydivers came together to set a new Guinness World Record. Among them were 14 skydivers from Skydive Sofia — 10 men and 4 women — making our group the largest team from a single organisation in the record.
65 Skydivers, 65 Flags and One Historic Jump
The jump began aboard a legendary IL-76 military transport aircraft. All 65 participants exited at an altitude of 4,200 metres, with an exit speed of approximately 330 km/h.
For 18 seconds, the skydivers flew together before deploying their parachutes.
Once under canopy, each participant unfurled their national flag. Suddenly, 65 flags representing 25 nationalities filled the sky — an extraordinary sight that turned the skies above Benghazi into part of skydiving history.
After displaying their flags, the participants performed a precise descent and synchronised landing towards a common target.
Skydive Sofia — the Largest Team in the Record
For us, being part of this record was particularly special.
14 Skydive Sofia skydivers joined the international team, making us the largest group representing a single organisation within the record.
Four of our female skydivers — Ina, Petya, Poli and Snezhana — joined Vasil, Dimitar, Ivaylo, Kiril, Konstantin, Krasimir, Lyudmil, Pavel, Petar and Hristo to make the moment even more special for our sky family.
But among all the flags in the sky, there was one we were watching particularly closely.
The Bulgarian Flag Was First to the Target
In such a large international jump, it may have been a small moment — but it meant a lot to us.
Seeing the Bulgarian flag reach the target first, among 65 flags from around the world, was one of those moments that is difficult to put into words.
More Than Just a Jump
A record like this is about much more than altitude, aircraft and the scale of the formation.
It takes trust, concentration, precision and the ability to work as a team, even when the people around you come from different parts of the world.
That is what made this experience so special.
We went to Benghazi for one incredible jump.
We came back with a new Guinness World Record, unforgettable memories and a story we will be telling for years to come.
